Quotes, options, calendars, and history

Stock and Options API

Search for a ticker, then read its quote, its option chain, its next earnings date, its financial statements, and its price history. Market-wide lists cover movers, unusual options activity, IPOs, stock splits, and economic events.

Capabilities

What you can do with the Stock and Options API

Most calls take a ticker, and several also take a type such as STOCKS, ETF, or INDEX. Search returns both for each match, so it is usually the first request.

Quotes

The quote endpoint returns the last sale price, net and percent change, bid and ask, volume, and market status for one symbol. For a watchlist, the quotes endpoint accepts up to 200 comma-separated symbols in one request. See examples

Option chains

The v3 options endpoint returns the calls and puts for one expiration, sorted by strike, with bid, ask, last price, volume, open interest, implied volatility, and the Greeks (delta, theta, vega, and rho). Options endpoints need a plan that includes options data. See examples

Calendars

Earnings, dividends, IPOs, secondary offerings, stock splits, and economic events each have a calendar endpoint. The earnings calendar can also return one company's next report date, report timing, and EPS estimate when you pass its ticker. See examples

Price history

The history endpoint returns OHLCV candles for one symbol, oldest first, with New York timestamps, for stocks, ETFs, indexes, and futures. For daily bars between two dates, the historical endpoint takes from_date and to_date in YYYY-MM-DD format. See examples

Technical indicators

SMA, EMA, RSI, MACD, CCI, ADX, STOCH, ADOSC, and AD are calculated from the symbol's price history at the interval you choose. Each response holds the latest 50 values, each paired with a Unix timestamp, ready to plot. See examples

Crypto has its own section

Coin profiles, quotes, holder lists, and the coin list are documented in the Crypto section, and the same API key works there. Stock quote endpoints do not return coins. See examples

Sample responses

These are single objects trimmed from response bodies so the field names are easy to scan. A live response also has a meta object, and the prices, dates, and estimates shown here are examples.

* Overage is optional and stays off until you turn it on in Billing. It is available on paid plans billed by card through Stripe, and not during a trial. Usage is counted in monthly periods that start on your billing day, yearly plans included. Requests past the included limit are charged at the plan's rate for each started block of 1,000, up to the overage cap, on one invoice after the period ends. Amounts under $0.50 carry over to the next invoice. If you change plans during a period, the limit and overage rate of the plan you are on when the period ends apply to the whole period.

The Free plan is also capped at 20 requests per day (New York time). Requests count by endpoint weight, and only responses with HTTP status 200 count.

Commercial use is included only on the plans that list it. If you are not sure whether your project counts as commercial use, email [email protected] before you launch.

Why SteadyAPI

Details that shape a markets build

A few behaviors decide how you sequence calls and parse results. The docs spell out each one per endpoint.

Search, then pass the type

The quote, ticker summary, and historical endpoints ask for the asset class along with the ticker. Search returns that class for every match, so store it next to the symbol.

One response wrapper

Every endpoint returns a meta object and a body. The fields inside the body change with the endpoint, but the wrapper stays the same, so one parser handles a quote and an earnings row.

Option screens beyond the chain

Unusual options activity, IV change, most active, highest IV, and options flow return market-wide option lists, 20 rows at a time. Use them to find contracts before you open a chain.

Fundamentals and filings

Financials returns the annual income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement, and ratios. Price targets, short interest, institutional holdings, SEC filings, and insider trades each have their own endpoint.
